Student Life

With a new city, school and roommates to get accustomed to, it is easy to feel lost. The faculty and staff of HSM are here to make you feel at home. Our heart is to help you bridge the gap and give you new opportunities for friends and an environment that will encourage you.

Throughout the semester we will host different activities for the students to socialize and enjoy time with each other. These activities will be announced throughout the semester. Being in the metroplex there are endless possibilities for work and fun.

HSM Student Life keeps a current list of jobs and housing opportunities available in the office.

Outreach & Missions

Missions and OutreachHSM provides each student with hands-on ministry opportunities. Students learn valuable insights while training in the various departments of Heartland World Ministries Church as well as local churches and ministries in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Nothing is more rewarding or educational than becoming actively involved in a dynamic church. There are many outreaches and evangelistic opportunities both local and through traveling teams that a student will be involved in while attending HSM. Through these outreaches students will receive hands-on training beginning with their first semester. All practical ministry requirements will be conducted through the ministry training programs.

Students are also required to participate in at least one international Missions Trip during their enrollment at HSM.  The funds for these trips are not included in cost of tuition.

Under local church leadership, students will be involved with numerous outreaches – including:

  • Ministry to children
  • Jail and Prison ministry
  • Street / Park evangelism
  • Campus ministries
  • Ministry to homeless shelters
  • Intercultural ministries
  • Nursing homes
  • Assisting local Teen Challenge ministries
  • Ministry through recreational/sports activities with underprivileged children

The goal of Heartland International Missions is to build and establish the Church of Jesus Christ in all nations by:

  1. Sending students into all the world
  2. Church planting
  3. Establishing Bible Schools
  4. Ministering to the most needy in society

Each year students are involved in 7-10 day missions trips to various countries of the world as well as outreaches in the US. Every summer opportunities for one month internships are presented to the students. Upon graduation the students are encouraged to make a one year commitment to a place of ministry as a missionary associate or as staff in a local church.

Heartland School of Ministry is committed to helping every student fulfill his or her calling and Heartland International Missions is part of that commitment!

Leadership

The Student Life Department strives to strike a balance between the classroom and actually fleshing out Christianity! Students will be hsm_190
given an opportunity to lead by serving each other and impacting the campus community through a multitude of service options: Serving coffee, planning campus days, coordinating evangelistic outreaches and more. The Student Life Department will provide opportunities for students to excel and develop their leadership skills as chapel leaders, leading small groups, or intercessory prayer. It has been said, "The best time to plant an oak tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is today." Student Life is all about planting this generation of OAKS for God!

Fellowship

The Student Life Department is there for the students to bridge the gap and to give them an opportunity to break the ice and to build genuine friendships. Through small groups, all night prayer and worship gatherings and creative relationship building events no student is left behind. Take a deep breath...the journey to life long friendships is around the corner!

Housing

Though every HSM student is responsible for his/her housing, we will give our best effort to pair roommates and make recommendations. There are many quality apartment complexes within 10 minutes of the HSM campus.  The average 2 bedroom apartment in the area ranges from $700-$900 a month. We recommend students pair up 4 to an apartment. The cost savings can be substantial.

For assistance with locating the apartment that is right for you, please contact Anita Gibbs at http://www.movingtoirving.com/.

Employment

We are reaching out to local businesses and discovering who is hiring within a 10-mile radius of the School of Ministry. Our goal is to supply an active employment list for HSM students. We encourage students to have an active resume and current references when applying. Job opportunities will be announced via the weekly email announcements.
